Why our pilates is different
Our classes are classes designed by physiotherapists who understand how the body moves, and what to do when it is not moving well. We keep our classes small, with a maximum of eight people, so you get genuine attention and supervision. Over a few weeks you will build real control and body awareness, and get back to doing the things you want to do.

Clinical pilates vs fitness pilates
Clinical pilates grew out of the early 1990s, when rehabilitation specialists, especially physiotherapists in Australia, began blending pilates with the best available evidence from sports and rehabilitation research. The result is a method that keeps the benefits of traditional pilates while modifying the movements that can be too vigorous for people who are injured or new to it. Here is how the two compare:
Clinical Pilates | Fitness Pilates |
|---|---|
Watches painful joints, muscles and nerves under load and adapts each exercise. | Does not account for injured tissue and is harder to modify for specific needs. |
Small classes with excellent supervision. | Often larger classes with less individual supervision. |
Build stability first, then strength when you are ready. Pelvic control and neutral spine come before end-of-range flexibility. | Tends towards flexion, stretching and end-of-range movement, needing moderate to high strength. |
Grounded in established research on how your muscles actually function. | Little evidence to support its use for low back or neck pain rehabilitation. |
Includes diagnostic and rehabilitation tools for injury recovery and performance. | Dance-orientated exercises for general conditioning and lifestyle benefits. |
